Dear Parents,
We are very excited that as part of the Language Arts Programme, the Grade Two students are collaborating with the Grade Twelve students from Ulpanat Orot to write and illustrate a children’s story book.
The Grade Two students will choose the characters, help create the plot and illustrate the story. The Grade Twelve students will put it all together and turn it into a picture book!
The girls from Ulpanat Orot are friendly, kind and eager to work with our students. They visited our classroom on Wednesday for Language Arts and plan on coming a few more times. Please ask your children about their experience so far. We can’t wait to see the final product!
As part of our Generative Topic, “Water, Water, Wonderful Water”, the children are learning about different aspects of water. The students are listening to a dripping tap, rain stick and different sounds of water in order to make personal connections from their real life experiences. They are engaged in a “stream of consciousness” form of writing, as their pencil keeps moving and their ideas are being shared. They have started to revise and self-edit their work.
During SES, the students are taking on the role of scientists and are involved in various water experiments. They are using the Scientific Method as they are making hypotheses, recording their steps and forming conclusions about the three states of matter. During Tu B’shvat, the students participated in a water audit and checked to see which classrooms had leaking taps, missing aerators and missing signs. As well, they are excited to share their results from their “at home” water audit with their classmates.
Take a look at the photos below to see the students in action at High Park Nature Centre. They discussed the process of water infiltration and the importance of saving water. They also looked at various trees and learned about animals. The students had a lot to share about their great experience!
