Tu B’Shvat Celebrations

Last week the SK classes celebrated Tu B’Shvat. We had a beautiful seder in each class where we sang and ate fruits from Israel.

The students followed a Tu B’Shvat seder haggadah.

We spent the week learning about the environment and how we can protect it. SK-A focused on litter and how to reduce it and SK-B focused on how to include the 3R’s (Reduce, Re-use, Recycle) into their classroom. Both classes sorted garbage and determined where different kinds of garbage belongs (e.g. Blue Bin, Black Bin, Green Bin).

Here are some photos from our Tu B’Shvat celebration:

Connecting Through Art

For the past few weeks, the SK students have been working hard to complete their mini-creation books in art class. As we have spent a great deal of time learning about the 7 days of creation, the students immersed themselves in this reflective piece at the end of our unit. Through art, the students represented each of the things that God created on each day of creation and grappled with the challenge of representing “light” (Day 1) and “Shabbat” (Day 7) through art.

Once these books were complete, the SK students had an amazing opportunity to connect with the Grade 3 class to share with them all that they had learned about the 7 days of creation. Putting on their teacher hats, the SK students showed off their books and explained what was created on each day and how they chose to represent each one in their mini-creation book.

Here are some photos from that exciting morning:

Sheket, Sheket

In Ivrit class, the SK students learned a Chanukah poem.  Acting it helped the children to better understand it.  Their vocabulary has increased and the children learned how to pose questions and answer them.  Most of all, they were very involved and excited to take different roles of the poem and dramatize it.
