Choosing the right Jewish Day School is a big decision for your family.
At The Toronto Heschel School, our admissions process reflects the same care, thoughtfulness, and whole-child focus that define our classrooms. From your first conversation with us to your child’s first day, every step is welcoming, supportive, and deeply rooted in our values and community.
Your Step-by-Step Guide to Admissions
STEP 1: Initial Inquiry & Tour
- Book a Tour or Attend an Open House: Come see us in person! Prospective families are encouraged to schedule a private tour or attend our Fall Open House to get a firsthand look at life at Heschel.
- Have Questions First? We’re here to help! Complete our inquiry form, email us at admissions@torontoheschel.org, or call 416-635-1876 ext. 334.
STEP 2: Submit Your Application
- Apply Online: Complete and submit the online application form.
- Application Fee: A non-refundable fee of $1,000 is required upon submission ($500 for Preschool, JK and SK applicants).
- Required Documents: Submit all necessary documents, including recent report cards and any relevant assessments.
STEP 3: Student Visit & Parent Meeting
- Visit & Meeting: A half-day or full-day student visit is required to assess fit and readiness. Parents of eligible applicants will also be invited to meet with the Head of School and the Division Director as part of the process
- JK Applicants: Invited for a one-hour drop-off visit in our Preschool classroom.
- Preschool Applicants: A student visit is not required.
STEP 4: Admission Decision
- How We Decide: We consider the child’s best interests, family alignment with our school values, and overall fit.
- Notification: Families will receive a written notification regarding the admission decision.
- Timelines:
- Early Years Admissions: Completed by the end of January (for the following school year).
- Other Grades: Apply by end of April to allow time for processing.
STEP 5: Enrollment and Deposit
- Upon Acceptance: Your application fee is applied toward the tuition deposit.
- Refund Policy: If admission is not offered, the application fee will be refunded, less a 3% credit card processing fee.

Note:
Our Preschool class for the 2025–2026 school year is currently full, and the 2026–2027 class already has a waitlist. We warmly encourage families to join our waitlists so we can stay connected and keep you in mind if a space becomes available. To join, simply complete the online application but do not submit the application fee. Instead, click “Save & Finish Later” when prompted for payment. No fee is required to be added to the waitlist.
