Alan Rusonik
Principal & Head of School
Alan brings over 20 years of administrative experience to The Toronto Heschel School. A life-long Jewish educator, he is responsible for overseeing the school’s day-to-day operations, fostering a positive school culture, and working closely with all stakeholders to build enthusiasm and commitment to Heschel. Alan is dedicated to promoting excellence in teaching and learning, with a strong focus on student achievement and holistic development. In collaboration with the Leadership Team, he strategizes around program improvement, innovation, and staff support.
Sol Lev
Director of Finance & Business Operations
Sol brings over 20 years of financial experience in the banking and financial services sector. In addition to his corporate background, he has held leadership roles in Jewish non-profit organizations, with a focus on finance, operations, and administration. This unique combination of financial expertise and community-based experience makes him especially well-positioned to support The Toronto Heschel School’s continued growth and operational excellence.
Ellen Ostofsky
Director of Development & Community Engagement
Ellen leads and supports fundraising and engagement initiatives at The Toronto Heschel School. She works closely with the School Council, staff, Heschel families, and the wider community to develop meaningful opportunities for philanthropy and connection.
Galit Ben-Ary
Director of Admissions & Marketing
Galit is responsible for welcoming new students and families into The Toronto Heschel School and for sharing the story of what makes the school so exceptional. She works closely with prospective families throughout the admissions process and leads the school’s marketing efforts, ensuring that Heschel’s values, philosophy, and vibrant community are reflected across all touchpoints. Galit looks forward to helping families explore whether The Toronto Heschel School is the right fit for their child.
Shaiel Dukerker
Office Manager
As Office Manager, Shaiel ensures the smooth day-to-day operations of the school through strong systems, efficient processes, and a collaborative spirit. From managing scheduling and logistics to supporting staff onboarding and team culture, he plays a key role in making Heschel a well-run, welcoming, and joyful place to work and learn.
Andrea Zecharia
Early Years Division Director (Early Years, JK, SK)
Andrea leads the Preschool, Junior Kindergarten, and Senior Kindergarten programs at The Toronto Heschel School. She oversees day-to-day operations, ensures compliance with the Child Care and Early Years Act, and works closely with faculty on pedagogy, supervision, and curriculum development. Andrea mentors educators, supports student learning, and promotes best practices to maintain a high standard of care and education.
Ilana Mansharov
Elementary Division Director (Grades 1–5)
Ilana Mansharov provides instructional and curricular leadership for the elementary division, guiding the implementation of Heschel’s innovative, integrated, and multi-sensory curriculum. She collaborates with teachers to enhance student learning, supports professional growth, and works closely with the Student Support Team to ensure the academic, social, and emotional well-being of every child.
Eric Cohen
Junior High Division Director (Grades 6 – 8)
Eric Cohen leads the academic and day-to-day operations of the Junior High division, ensuring a vibrant, integrated learning experience that reflects Heschel’s educational philosophy. He supports students’ academic, social, and emotional growth, collaborates with faculty to promote instructional excellence, and partners with families to foster a positive, inclusive school community.
