Heschel Choir
General Information
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I am very excited to welcome students to the Heschel Choir!
Choir gives students the opportunity to sing together, develop their musical skills, build confidence and be
part of a wonderful musical community at The Toronto Heschel School. Our goal is to make beautiful music
together while creating an experience that is challenging, joyful and fun.
Choir members should come with a positive attitude, a willingness to work together and, most importantly,
a love of singing.
Expectations
Choir is a lot of fun, but being part of an ensemble also means making a commitment to the group.
Every singer has an important role to play. Students are expected to participate fully, listen carefully, follow
directions and help create an environment where everyone can learn and make music together.
Students should:
• Arrive on time and be ready to sing
• Participate fully in warm ups, exercises and songs
• Listen respectfully when others are speaking or singing
• Work cooperatively with the rest of the choir
• Practise music at home when requested
• Make every effort to attend rehearsals and performances
Positive participation in choir rehearsals and in the music classroom is an important part of remaining in
the choir. If there are concerns, I will work with the student and family to help resolve them.
Rehearsals
Choir rehearsals will take place during lunch on Wednesdays from 12\:pm-1pm. Students will eat their
lunches in the music room (room 401) and then commence rehearsals.
Regular attendance is very important. A choir depends on everyone being there and contributing. Students
are also encouraged to practice their music at home between rehearsals.
Practice recordings, lyrics and other rehearsal materials may be provided throughout the year.
Performances
The Heschel Choir will have opportunities to perform at school celebrations, concerts and other special
events throughout the year.
There may also be opportunities for the choir to perform in the wider community.
Families will receive information about performances as dates are confirmed. Because each singer is an
important part of the ensemble, choir members are expected to make every reasonable effort to attend
scheduled performances.
Choir Clothing
For performances, students may be asked to wear coordinated concert clothing. Specific information will be
sent to families before our first performance.
Please contact me if obtaining concert clothing presents any difficulty.
Family Involvement
Family support is an important part of a successful choir program.
From time to time, we may need parent and guardian volunteers to accompany us on outings, help
supervise students or assist with special choir activities.
If you are available to volunteer, please indicate this on the registration form.
Most Importantly: Have Fun!
Choir is about much more than learning notes and words. It is an opportunity to make friends, develop
confidence, experience the excitement of performing and discover what happens when many individual
voices become one ensemble.
I am looking forward to a wonderful year of music making with the Heschel Choir!
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
Warmly,
Lorie Wolf
