How are Students Supported Academically and Emotionally?
At The Toronto Heschel School, we prioritize individualized attention with a high teacher-to-student ratio and small class sizes. This enables teachers to work closely with students in small groups and one-on-one, tailoring instruction to help each child thrive—without the need to remove them from the classroom. Our teaching methodologies, which incorporate arts-based, multisensory learning and hands-on projects, are among the most effective in education, designed to meet the diverse needs of all students.
For students requiring additional support, our dedicated and highly skilled staff provide comprehensive assistance throughout the school.
Early Years Literacy and Support:
The Director of Early Years and our Literacy Specialist collaborate with Early Years teachers to support students during their critical developmental stages.
Our Literacy Teacher has developed an exceptional Early Years Literacy program, assessing students from JK to Grade 2 and working directly with teachers to implement this program in the classroom.
Targeted Learning Strategies and IEPs:
Two Student Support Coordinators—one for Grades 1–3 and one for Grades 4–8—partner with teachers to address individual learning needs, offering tailored strategies to support struggling learners. They also develop and oversee the implementation of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), ensuring every child receives the resources they need to succeed within the classroom setting.
Social and Emotional Well-Being:
Our trained Social Worker or Derekh Eretz and Tikkun Coordinator provides invaluable support for students navigating social or emotional challenges, fostering a safe and supportive environment, helping students build resilience and confidence.
Through this comprehensive approach, we ensure that every child at The Toronto Heschel School receives the attention, care, and tools they need to excel academically, socially, and emotionally.
